Roller Coaster Ride

Hey!

Nyt lyhyt tunnelma postaus tähän kaiken arkihöpinän keskelle. Eli mulla on enää vähän alle kolme kuukautta elämää jäljellä täällä Gig Harborissa.

Hello!

I wanted to write something short about my feelings instead of the usual "what happened today?" texts. The fact is that I only have less than three months left in Gig Harbor. It is really hard to describe the feelings and thoughts that go through my head right now. My feelings go up and down like a roller coaster. One day I'm happy, life is smiling, nothing could go better, and I would do anything to stay here. Another day is totally the opposite. I'm depressed, home sick, and would like to fly back to Finland right away. And the thing is, these feelings don't change from day to day, but also from hour to hour. Small little things can make me feel so much better or make me feel super sad. Lately I have been more homesick than I first was. I have started to think about everything I miss in Finland, and the things that aren't so great in here. I miss my friends, my family, and boyfriend. Some days it feels impossible to be in school but then comes another day and I'm perfectly fine again. This is a feeling that no one else than people that have gone through it can understand.

Easter in America

Moi!

Quick review of my American Easter. My family is not super religious but we were still supposed to go to church on Sunday morning. Well, we slept in and because the weather outside was amazing my parents wanted us to do yard work and clean for the night. We had family friend coming over for a dinner so the yard had to look good! The weather was really nice, sun was shining and it was 65 degrees till late in the evening, that's why we ate dinner outside. After the dinner we had an Easter Egg hunt! I had never done that before so it was a mandatory thing to do. Hehheh. We ate a lot of chocolate and other sweets. One difference between get together here and in Finland is that here every family brings something. So we always end up with way too much food. But it sure is good!  And the good news is that we have leftovers for the rest of the week.

UW

Hei!

Shortsi keli!

Saturday was a lovely and sunny day and my family and I made a trip to University of Washington. My mom had scheduled a tour for us for that afternoon and she had definitely picked the best possible day. It was almost 70 degrees and sun was shining from the bright blue sky. I was wearing shorts for the first time this spring! I loved the campus and got the feeling that I have to come study here. Though I think the weather and the gorgeous campus had something to do with that. All the buildings were like straight from Harry Potter and the courtyard with it's cherry trees was phenomenal!

Victoria, B.C.

Moi!

On Friday I decided to do an extempore trip with Gaby and her host mom to Victoria, Canada. We left at 6am from Gaby's house, drove to Port Angeles, and took the ferry to the city. Victoria reminded me about Helsinki and Stockholm. It was by the water, everything was in the walking distance and it wasn't too big. Perfect! Saturday was an amazing, sunny day and we spent the whole time walking around the city, not knowing where we were, and from store to store. I didn't buy a lot of clothes because the prices were much higher than in the States. In the afternoon an Finnish exchange student Wilma joined us and took us to this traditional Victorian restaurant to eat traditional Victorian food. Halibut fish and chips. It was so good! In the evening we were super tired after walking the whole day and still stuffed because of the fish and chips.

On Sunday we woke up early to get coffee and tea before Mary's conference started. Gaby and I just stayed at the hotel till 10:30 because that's when Wilma and her host mom picked us up to have brunch with them. Her mom is Argentinian and for them Sunday is a family day so the house was full of people and there was plenty of food. She was a great cook and we ate till we felt like exploding! Once again, when I got together with a Finnish person, we started to talk about food we miss. Wilma is lucky because Canadians have... well how to translate the Finnish foods.. No idea. Anyways, it was strange to switch from Finnish to English all the time. Even when we were talking alone Wilma and I used more English than Finnish. And when she suddenly said something in Finnish the only words that came to my mind were in English. Funny how it goes. After the brunch we headed back to the city-city. And guess what? WE TOOK THE BUS! A real bus! Probably the first time after I arrived in the USA. In the central Victoria we just walked around and enjoyed the day. Too soon we had to leave to catch the ferry.
